About the project.
The Fight Like a Girl project will provide an analysis of women's professional wrestling today, using interviews with promoters, wrestlers, and fans to understand how people engage with this particular cultural pursuit around the world.
Work from the project will be posted on this website, and ultimately published as a book.
The aims of the project are to understand:
- How women’s wrestling is marketed by an industry that historically promotes images of hypermasculinisation, violence, and the marginalisation of women.
- How woman wrestlers reflect on their performance art.
- How fans of women’s wrestling negotiate their enjoyment of a relatively niche text.
- How varying national contexts may have an impact of the production and reception of the wrestling text.
